FRANKE TABBED CENTENNIAL CO-COACH OF THE YEAR
LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Centennial Conference wrestling coaches recently announced its post-season Coach of the Year selection and Washington and Lee Head Coach Gary Franke was named Co-Coach of the Year.
Sharing the honor with Muhlenberg's Tom Schleicher, Franke led the Generals to an 8-3 mark in 2006-07, the most wins since going 9-5 in 1986-87. W&L also posted its best regular-season conference record (5-2), since joining the Centennial in 1998.
With his 34th season at the helm of the wrestling team, Franke is the longest-standing head coach at Washington and Lee, owning a 181-183-3 all-time record.
The Generals return all but one wrestler to the mat in 2007-08, including junior Anthony Boniello (Katonah, N.Y./Somers), who finished as the runner-up at 165 pounds at the Centennial Championships and juniors Jesse Sataloff (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) and Kirk Adamson (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher’s) and sophomore John Christopher (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons), who all placed third at the championships.
