THREE GENERALS NAMED TO ALL-STATE FIELD HOCKEY TEAM
LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Washington and Lee placed three players on the Virginia Sports Information Director's (VaSID) College Division All-State Field Hockey team which was released on Thursday afternoon.
Junior midfielder Kendall Korte (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) was named to the first team, while freshman forward Sallie Armstrong (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) and senior defender Rebecca Hatchett (Newport News, Va./Hampton Roads) were selected to the second team.
Korte received the honor after being named the ODAC Player of the Year and First Team All-South Region. She started all 20 games this fall and finished third on the team in scoring with 20 points on six goals and eight assists. Korte will enter her senior season ranked fourth all-time at W&L with 57 career points (19 g, 19 a).
Armstrong, a First Team All-ODAC choice this season, started all 20 games and led the Generals in scoring with 25 points on seven goals and a school-record 11 assists. Her four game-winning goals also led the team.
A Second Team All-ODAC selection in 2006, Hatchett played in 15 games with 12 starts and spearheaded a W&L defense that allowed an average of just 1.17 goals per game and posted a school-record eight shutouts. She also added one assist and one defensive save for the season.
Washington and Lee finished the 2006 season with a 14-6 overall record and a 7-1 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Generals advanced to the ODAC Tournament Semifinals for the fifth-straight season before falling to Eastern Mennonite.
