W&L VOLLEYBALL TIED FOR 25TH IN AVCA PRESEASON POLL
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released its 2005 Preseason Division III Coaches Poll and Washington and Lee University is tied for 25th in the rankings.
The Generals received 55 points and are tied with Texas Lutheran for the 25th spot. W&L's previous high ranking was 26th in last season's AVCA Preseason Poll.
Washington University (Mo.) totaled 584 points to take the top ranking, followed by Juniata (579), NYU (519), Wittenberg (485) and Emory University (471).
W&L, the four-time defending ODAC Champions, posted a 28-8 overall record in 2004 and advanced to the South Regional Semifinals before falling to Emory, 3-1.
The Generals, who have won 54 straight matches against conference opponents, return four starters and 10 letterwinners from last season, including two-time All-America setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep).
W&L kicks off the 2005 season by hosting the 15th Annual Washington and Lee Invitational on Sept. 9-10. The Generals begin the tournament with NCAA Tournament participant Christopher Newport.
