SALEM, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) released its women's volleyball preseason coaches poll on Wednesday and Washington and Lee earned the top spot among the conference's 11 teams.
W&L, the four-time defending ODAC tournament champions, received 119 points and nine first place votes. Randolph-Macon placed second with 102 points and two first place votes, while Virginia Wesleyan rounded out the top three with 79 points.
The Generals posted a 28-8 overall record and a perfect 11-0 mark in the ODAC last season. W&L advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight season before falling to Emory University, 3-1.
The Generals return a pair of First Team All-ODAC performers, including senior setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep), the reigning ODAC Player of the Year. W&L will also have four-time ODAC Coach of the Year Bryan Snyder at the helm of a team that is riding a 54-match winning streak against ODAC opponents.
W&L opens the 2005 season against Christopher Newport in the opening round of the Washington and Lee Invitational on Fri., Sept. 9 at 4:00 pm.
