NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Washington and Lee junior center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./The Orme School) has been named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) All-State Women's Basketball Team.
Hunsinger was a second team selection after garnering honorable mention laurels a season ago. Randolph-Macon senior guard Megan Silva was named the VaSID Player of the Year, while R-MC Head Coach Carol LaHaye was selected the VaSID Coach of the Year.
Also a Second Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) selection in 2005-06, Hunsinger had an outstanding junior campaign in which she led the team in scoring (15.2 ppg), led the ODAC and ranked 12th nationally in blocks (2.8 bpg) and ranked 47th nationally in rebounds (10.0 rpg). She also racked up 31 assists, 25 steals and shot 43.9 percent (161-367) from the field.
Hunsinger posted 12 double-doubles during the season and now has 36 double-doubles in 68 career games. She will enter her senior season ranked second all-time at W&L in career blocks (168), third in career rebounds (779), third in career field goal percentage (.444) and fifth in career points (1,118).
Washington and Lee finished the 2005-06 season with an 11-15 overall record and an 8-12 mark in the ODAC. The Generals advanced to the ODAC Tournament, falling to top-seeded Randolph-Macon, 79-71, in the quarterfinals.
