SALEM, Va. -- Washington and Lee junior center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./The Orme School) was named to the women’s basketball all-conference team which was announced by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference on Wednesday evening. Hunsinger garnered second team accolades.
Hunsinger, who also earned Second Team All-ODAC and Honorable Mention All-State honors last season, has started all 25 games and leads the team in scoring (15.1 ppg), rebounding (10.1 rpg), blocks (2.8 bpg) and double-doubles (12), while shooting 44 percent (153-350) from the field.
Hunsinger tied her career-high with 26 points and had a season-best 16 rebounds in a 75-58 loss to Roanoke on Jan. 10. She also notched 15 points, 15 rebounds and a season-high seven blocks in an 89-75 win over Emory & Henry on Jan. 24.
Hunsinger is also moving up the W&L record book in several categories. She ranks second all-time in blocks (165), third in rebounding (770) and fifth in scoring (1,099). Her 71 blocks this season are a new W&L record. She ranks 12th in the nation with 2.8 blocks per game and 45th with 10.1 rebounds per contest.
Randolph-Macon senior guard Megan Silva was named the conference Player of the Year, while Virginia Wesleyan’s Stephany Dunmyer was tabbed as the Coach of the Year. Guilford freshman forward Kristine Ellis was selected as the Freshman of the Year and Bridgewater guard Marsha Kinder was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Washington and Lee (11-14) continues its season on Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the ODAC Tournament in Salem, Va. The eighth-seeded Generals take on top-seeded and eighth-ranked Randolph-Macon (22-2) at 12:30 pm.
