LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee Athletic Director Mike Walsh has announced the appointment of Chris Schall as W&L's new Fitness Center Director and Strength Coach. Schall begins his appointment August 15.
"I am eager to begin working with the W&L community," said Schall. "This is a unique challenge because of a relatively new facility and the opportunity to set and expand upon the current operations. Everyone at W&L has been extremely friendly and I am really excited about getting started. I am looking forward to it."
"Chris brings a wealth of experience to our fitness and strength programs," said Walsh. "We are excited that he will be directing the day-to-day activities of the new fitness center, as well as working with our athletic teams."
Schall comes to W&L following four years as a physical education teacher, mathematics teacher, and strength and conditioning coach at the Steward School in Richmond, Va. In that capacity, Schall supervised the design of, and continued to maintain, the school's 1,500-square foot weight room in addition to implementing the school's strength and conditioning programs.
Prior to his experience at the Steward School, Schall served as a health education instructor at the Blue Ridge School in St. George, Va., during the 1997-98 school year and was an exercise specialist at NovaCare in Orange, Va., from 1993-97.
A 1989 graduate of SUNY-Fredonia with a bachelor of science in sound recording technology, Schall earned his master of education in exercise physiology from the University of Virginia in 1993. While at UVa., he served as the graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Cavaliers, assisting in the execution of conditioning programs for the school's 21 varsity sports teams.
Schall is certified by the National Strength & Conditioning Association, United States Weightlifting Federation and the American Red Cross.
