LEXINGTON, Va. -- Seniors Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville,
Va./Albemarle), Sara Jurkowsky (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) and
Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) were named to the
Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association South Atlantic
Region All-America first team, announced Friday morning.
Taffe, a 2004 First-Team All-ODAC selection, earned her
second-straight appointment to the first team after leading the
Generals with 70 points on a team-high 56 goals with 14 assists.
She finished her career with a school-record 238 points after
combining a school-best 182 goals with 56 assists.
Jurkowsky, a 2004 First Team All-ODAC choice, is making her first
all-region appearance after leading a Generals' defense that ranked
sixth nationally with a 6.00 goals against average. She also
collected a team-high 53 groundballs while ranking third with 21
caused turnovers.
Perini, the ODAC Player of the Year, is making her second
all-region appearance after earning second-team honors in 2003. She
logged the majority of the minutes in goal for W&L and made 140
saves to rank in the Top-20 nationally for goals-against average
(6.42) and Top-15 nationally in save percentage (.593).
Washington and Lee tied the school record for wins in a season
after notching a 15-4 overall mark and finishing 7-1 in the ODAC.
The Generals won the ODAC title and advanced to the NCAA Division
III Tournament for the second-straight season before falling to
Gettysburg, 13-8, in the second-round.
