LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior men's tennis player Seth Martin (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor) was presented the John W. Elrod Unsung General of the Year award at the Celebrating Student Success Gala Awards Assembly held on Wednesday evening at Lee Chapel.

The Celebrating Student Success Initiative, sponsored by the Dean of Students Office at W&L, recognizes those students who contribute to University life, in ways often not seen to the larger community and who bring both depth and breadth to the University community.

In addition to being a member of the men's tennis program, Martin serves as president to the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and has served as the social chair and president of Hillel, actively recruiting Jewish students and adding to the University's diversity. Martin also serves on the Multicultural Advisory Board and has formerly served on the Career Services Advisory Board.

A member of ODK and Phi Beta Kappa, Martin has also served as a tutor at the Natural Bridge Juvenile Learning Center, and presently volunteers at the Stonewall Jackson Hospital Birthing Center.

A three-year letterwinner for the men's tennis program, Martin has posted a 16-2 career record in singles and a 13-2 career mark in doubles. He is 4-0 this year in singles and 2-0 in doubles. Martin serves as the tennis team's Student-Athlete Mentor (SAM) and is a member of the SAMS Council.
