W&L FIELD HOCKEY TIES FOR FOURTH IN ODAC PRESEASON POLL

LEXINGTON, Va. -- In just its second season competing in the ODAC, the Washington and Lee field hockey team tied for fourth in the ODAC Preseason Field Hockey Coaches' Poll, which was released Monday morning.

Defending ODAC champ Lynchburg holds the top spot, having collected six first-place votes. They are followed by Roanoke (two first-place votes), Eastern Mennonite (one first-place vote), Randolph-Macon and Washington and Lee, Virginia Wesleyan, Bridgewater, Sweet Briar, Randolph-Macon Woman's and Hollins.

Last year, a young Generals squad completed its first full season at the varsity level, posting a 3-10 mark overall (2-7 ODAC). However, their record belies their competitiveness -- seven of their losses were by just one goal.

The Generals returning players are highlighted by Second Team All-ODAC selection and junior team captain, forward Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle). Also back after earning recognition as an Honorable Mention All-ODAC performer is sophomore midfielder Kitt Murphy (Richmond, Va./St. Catherines).

W&L kicks off its season on the road at Mary Baldwin on Wed., Sept. 11 at 5:00 pm. Its home opener is Wed., Sept. 18 against Hollins.
