W&L's PROKO EARNS NATIONAL LEADERSHIP AND SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior women's tennis player Erika Proko (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) was awarded the National Division III ITA/Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship it was announced on Friday.
The honor is given annually to the player who has best exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.
Proko, the 2003 ODAC Player of the Year, is currently 24-3 in singles and 31-1 in doubles action this season. A three-time All-American, Proko is currently rated No. 1 in doubles and No. 9 in singles in Division III by the ITA.
Washington and Lee (24-1) plays Emory (23-1) at 2:00 p.m. (PT) today for the Division III national championship.
