SULLIVAN AND RAPOZA CHOSEN TO PLAY IN EAST COAST BOWL
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior football players Mat Rapoza (Kill Devil Hills, N.C./Manteo) and Chris Sullivan (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) have been chosen to play in the Second Annual City of Petersburg East Coast Bowl on Sat., Nov. 30 at Historic Cameron Field in Petersburg, Va.
The game features draft eligable players from NCAA Division II
and III schools in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina,
Tennessee, Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Delaware. A
total of 35 players were chosen for a North squad and a South squad
which includes Rapoza, Sullivan and three other ODAC players. All
money raised from the game goes towards a scholarship fund for area
high school players planning on attending a Division II or III
An offensive lineman, Rapoza has twice earned All-America honors from D3Football.com. A two-time First Team All-ODAC and All-State selection, he was the leader of an offensive line which allowed just 22 sacks in 568 pass attempts the past two seasons.
A running back, Sullivan earned AP Little All-America honors last season and is a two-time First Team All-ODAC selection. The Division III leader in all-purpose yards last season (2,024), he became the first player in Washington and Lee history to record two, 1000-yard rushing seasons by amassing 1,123 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground in 2002. His 175.3 all-purpose yards per game rank 13th nationally. Sullivan completed his W&L career as the school's all-time leader in rushing yards (3,140) and all-purpose yards (5,931).
Washington and Lee finished the 2002 season with a 5-5 overall record, 3-3 in the ODAC. The Generals finished third in the conference behind second-ranked Bridgewater and Hampden-Sydney.
