W&L FIELD HOCKEY PICKED EIGHTH IN ODAC PRESEASON POLL
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee field hockey team was picked to finish eighth in the 2001 ODAC Preseason Coaches Poll released Tuesday morning.
The Generals received 72 points, edging out ninth-place Randolph-Macon Woman's College (77 points) and tenth-place Hollins (86 points).
This will be the first season field hockey will be a full varsity sport at W&L. Last season, as a developmental varsity team, the Generals finished 4-8.
Eastern Mennonite was the overwhelming preseason favorite with 11 points and seven first-place votes. Lynchburg and Roanoke each received 23 points. However, Lynchburg also received two first-place votes and earned the No. 2 position.
The Generals open their season on September 8 with a 1:00 pm contest at Virginia Wesleyan.
