W&L VOLLEYBALL EARNS NCAA TOURNAMENT BID
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team
received the third seed and will face sixth-seeded Christopher
Newport on Thursday evening at 5:00 pm CST in the first round of
the NCAA Division III South Regional held in San Antonio, Texas.
The winner of the match will advance to meet Emory University in a
South Regional semifinal on Friday.
W&L defeated Christopher Newport, 3-1, in the W&L
Invitational on September 8.
Trinity University is the region's top-seed and host of the
six-team regional. The Tigers will take on the winner of the East
Texas Baptist/Maryville match in Friday's other semifinal. The
winners of Friday's semifinal matches will square off on Saturday
for the right to play in the Division III Quarterfinals on November
17.
The Generals, ranked No. 3 in the latest South Regional poll,
earned the automatic bid after claiming the Old Dominion Athletic
Conference title on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over
Roanoke. W&L concluded its regular season with an overall
record of 29-4. The 29 victories ties a school-record set during
the 1995 and 1996 seasons.
