returns seven starters from a 2000 squad which went 16-2 and

Lacrosse Yearbook tabbed the Generals as the third ranked team in
Division III. In addition, six Generals are cited as preseason

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee junior Melissa Hatley
(Columbia, S.C./Heathwood Hall) and sophomore Erika Proko
(Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) will compete starting Thursday at
the 2000 Rolex National Small College Tennis Championships at the
Racquet Club of Memphis and Rhodes College. The tournament matches
the nation's top eight small college singles and doubles teams.

has announced that the annual W&L Fall Golf Classic will be

TWO W&L SPORTS PICKED TO WIN ODAC TITLE
SALEM, Va. -- The 2000 Washington and Lee volleyball and women's
cross country teams were recently named the Old Dominion Athletic
Conference (ODAC) preseason favorites for the upcoming season in
voting conducted by the conference's coaches. W&L's men's cross
country team was tied for third in the voting, while the women's
soccer team was picked to finish fourth overall and the men's
soccer team was predicted to finish sixth.

National Championship
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee Head Men's Cross Country and
Women's Track coach John Tucker won the national championship in
the pentathlon at the USA Track & Field Master's Championships
held on August 10 in Eugene, Ore.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior football players
Justin Holton (Pittsburg, Texas/Pittsburg) and Jayson Lipsey
(Longwood, Fla./Lake Brantley) have been named to the Preseason
All-America Team by USA Football. Both were honorable mention
selections.

Walsh has announced that Gavin Colliton, interim head golf coach
during the spring of 2000, will remain as the University's head
golf coach.

has announced the appointment of Janet Hollack as head women's
basketball coach and assistant women's volleyball coach. Hollack
will begin her duties effective Aug. 15.
