W&L'S PROKO EARNS ALL-AMERICA STATUS
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee sophomore Erika Proko (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) has earned All-America honors by advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Individual Championships in San Antonio, Texas.
In her quarterfinal match, she dropped a 6-4, 6-2, decision to fourth-seeded Elena Blanina of Methodist College.
Proko finished the season with a 25-4 overall record, playing mostly at the No. 2 singles position. She also advanced to the NCAA Doubles Championships with teammate Melissa Hatley. The duo combined for a 23-9 record in the 2000-01 season.
Washington and Lee ended its season with a 20-3 overall record and claimed the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship for the 11th-straight season. W&L also earned a trip to the NCAA Division III Team Championships, in which the Generals lost to Trinity (Texas) in the quarterfinal round, 7-2. The quarterfinal appearance marked the sixth-straight season that W&L has finished in the top eight in Division III.
