MEN'S SOCCER PLACES THREE ON ALL-STATE SQUAD
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee placed three players on the College Division All-State Men's Soccer Team that was announced on Monday morning as voted on by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).
Junior fullback Paul Wallace (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) and sophomore goalkeeper Tim Foley (Darnestown, Md./Georgetown Prep) were named to the first team, while junior forward Andrew Grimes (Lexington, Va./Henry Clay) earned second-team honors.
Wallace was named Second-Team NSCAA All-America, First-Team All-South Atlantic Region and First-Team All-ODAC in leading his squad to a 19-2 overall record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in W&L history. He tallied one goal and one assist on the season, including the game-winner in overtime in the quarterfinal round of the ODAC Tournament.
Foley, a First-Team All-ODAC and Second-Team All-Region selection, started 15 games in the net for the Generals and recorded seven shutouts. He allowed just 11 goals in 1,438 minutes and has collected 81 saves for a save percentage of 0.880. He held a 0.69 goals-against average on the season, while his 0.76 career GAA is currently the lowest in school history. Foley also holds the W&L record for highest save percentage in a career (.864).
Grimes was also a First-Team All-ODAC and Second-Team All-Region performer. He finished the season sixth in the ODAC in scoring with 14 goals and two assists for 30 points and was named to the All-ODAC Tournament team. The forward scored two goals in leading the Generals to their first-ever win in the NCAA Tournament over Frostburg State, 4-1.
