FOUR W&L WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYERS EARN ALL-AMERICA HONORS

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's tennis team had four players earn All-America honors based upon their performance in the NCAA Division III doubles championship held at Gustavus Adolphus College.

The doubles team of senior Brook Hartzell (San Rafael, Calif./Branson School) and sophomore Melissa Hatley (Columbia, S.C./Heathwood Hall) earned All-America honors by finishing as the national runner-up in the doubles competition. The duo posted a 3-1 record in the competition, dropping the championship match to Meghan Gould and Sheree Schwartz of Pomona-Pitzer, 6-2, 6-1.

Senior Erin Eggers (Louisville, Ky./Collegiate) and freshman Erika Proko (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) also earned All-American honors by advancing to semifinals of the doubles competition. The duo was also defeated by Gould and Schwartz

Washington and Lee produced a third place finish in the team competition, dropping a semifinal match to eventual-champion Trinity University of Texas by a score of 6-3. The Generals then defeated last year's champion, Amherst, by a 5-4 count in the third place contest.
