Two W&L Seniors Named to All-State Men's Soccer Squad
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior forward Jamie Parker (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) was recently named to the VaSID College Division All-State men's soccer first team. Senior defender Ben Thompson (Bozman, Md./Newark) also recieved recognition for his outstanding season by being chosen as an honorable mention selection.
Parker, who finished his career as the second leading scorer in W&L history, was named to the first team for the fourth consecutive year. He led the Generals in scoring this season with 24 points (11 goals, 2 assists). For his career, Parker tallied 51 goals and eight assists for a total of 110 points. The total of 51 career goals is just one shy of the W&L record held by Sam Chase '99. Parker served as a tri-captain for the Generals this season.
Thompson, the starting sweeper and another tri-captain for the squad, rounded out his career with his first-ever selection to the All-State team. He was also named to the 1999 NSCAA All-South Region third team. His biggest impact came on the defensive side of the field where his leadership and support helped the W&L defense hold its opponents to an average of 1.49 goals per game, compared to the 2.01 goals per game posted by the General offense.
Both Parker and Thompson were also named to the 1999 All-ODAC men's soccer first team.
