Numerous W&L Students Earn Fall Scholar-Athlete Awards
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan
Hathorn has announced that 177 students earned Scholar-Athlete
awards during the recently completed fall term. The students
are all members of W&L athletic teams and achieved a
grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.50.
Additionally, 17 of the students honored achieved grade-point
averages of 4.0. Among the students achieving a 4.0 GPA were
sophomore cross country runner Michael Bronstein (Canton,
Mass./Canton), first-year cross country and track & field
athlete Anna Paden Carson (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry), senior
All-ODAC soccer player Ainsley Daigle (Lafayette, La./Episcopal
School of Acadiana), junior All-ODAC cross country and track &
field athlete Katie Driest (Davidson, N.C./North Mecklenburg),
first-year swimmer Stephanie Foster (Columbia, Md./Long Reach),
first-year tennis player Michael Holt (Henrico, Va./Mills Godwin),
sophomore All-ODAC tennis player Christopher Hu (Ridgewood,
N.J./Ridgewood), sophomore field hockey player Mary Virginia Long
(Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal), junior All-ODAC track &
field athlete Julia Murray (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan),
sophomore soccer player Al Organ (St. Paul, Minn./DeLaSalle),
senior swimmer Kelly Mae Ross (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell),
senior All-ODAC and all-region cross country and track & field
athlete Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton), first-year
cross country and track & field athlete Jacob Strauss (Great
Falls, Mont./Great Falls), sophomore cross country runner Scott
Sugden (Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial), senior football player
Sasha Vandalov (Vienna, Va./James Madison), sophomore baseball
player Drew Weprinsky (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) and senior
baseball player Eric Wisotsky (West Windsor, N.J./Plainsboro
North).
Other notable athletes to receive Scholar-Athlete awards included
sophomore All-America tennis player Meghan Buell (New Albany,
Ohio/New Albany), junior All-America tennis player Claire Cahill
(Austin, Texas/Lake Travis), junior all-region football player
Connor Hollenbeck (Alpharetta, Ga./Alpharetta), senior All-America
lacrosse player Joe LaSala (Wilton, Conn./Wilton), senior
All-America swimmer Wayde Marsh (Milford, Del./Salesianum School),
senior track & field national qualifier Dillon Myers
(Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough), sophomore all-region soccer player
Katie Rossi (Wyoming, Del./Caesar Rodney), senior all-region
baseball player Jonathan Stutts (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country
Day) and senior All-America swimmer Rick Sykes (Wellesley,
Mass./Wellesley).

All 24 varsity athletic programs achieved a team GPA of at least 3.000, led by the women's soccer team with a 3.595. The highest men's team GPA was the golf team with a 3.475 and no team recorded a GPA lower than 3.075. Together, the fall sports teams combined to post a 65-32-4 (.663) overall record while claiming three conference titles.
