Stewart Jackson '80
Stewart Jackson, '80, achieved individual success on the tennis court while leading Washington and Lee to regional and national success.
Jackson, a native of Lake Forest, Ill., teamed with fellow inductee Ben Johns to win the national doubles championship his freshman year in 1977. The duo became W&L's first tennis All-Americans while leading W&L to a second place finish at the Division III national championship.
W&L would finish in the top four in the nation in each of Jackson's four seasons with Jackson winning All-America honors five times. He teamed with Johns to win doubles All-America honors in 1977 and 1978 and with Pete Lovell in 1980. Jackson also won singles honors in 1979 (quarterfinalist) and 1980 (semifinalist).
In addition, W&L won four Old Dominion Athletic Conference championships during his career. In 1979 and 1980 Jackson won the ODAC No. 1 singles championship and was named the ODAC Player of the Year each time. In all he won eight (four singles, four doubles) ODAC titles in his career, one of just three players in conference history to accomplish that feat.
