W&L Names Rachel Wheeler Assistant Athletic Trainer
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced the appointment of Rachel Wheeler as assistant athletic trainer. Wheeler will begin her appointment immediately.
“We are excited to welcome Rachel to our athletic training staff here at Washington and Lee,” said Head Athletic Trainer Josh Williamson. “I know that she will provide our teams with excellent care and we are looking forward to a great year.”
Wheeler comes to W&L after serving as a graduate assistant athletic trainer and earning a master of education degree from the University of Virginia in 2010. In her one year at UVA, Wheeler was responsible for working with the Cavaliers’ football team.
“It's a great opportunity to be able to work at W&L,” said Wheeler. “I'm very happy to be settling in with the athletic training staff, as well as with the rest of the athletics department and I look forward to working with the athletes and teams.”
A 2009 graduate of Mercyhurst College with a bachelor of science in athletic training, she worked with the College’s football, women’s basketball and men’s lacrosse teams. She also gained experience with the Rochester Razorsharks PBL basketball team and Rochester Raging Rhinos USL soccer team, in addition to assisting with various sports at Penn State-Behrend and McDowell High School.
Wheeler is an NATA-BOC and a Virginia certified athletic trainer and she is also certified in CPR and AED devices.
