Two Generals Qualify For NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) recently announced the participants for the 2009 Division III Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships and Washington and Lee seniors Stacy Doornbos (Roswell, Ga./Lassiter) and Elizabeth Webb (Middleburg, Va./Wakefield) both qualified in one event.
Doornbos met the qualifying standard in the pentathlon (3,395 total points) after her school and facility's-record performance at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater last chance meet. She currently ranks as the fourth seed.
The 2009 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Co-Athlete of the year, Webb qualified in the mile after her school-record time of 5:00.91 at the Lafayette-Rider Winter Games. Webb will enter the race as the 12th seed.
Doornbos and Webb are among 223 female participants that will compete in the national championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.
The NCAA Championships will be held on Friday and Saturday at the Rose-Hulman Sports and Recreation Center in Terre Haute, Ind. Doornbos will compete in the pentathlon on Friday at 9:00, while Webb will be running in the mile with the prelims to be held on Friday at 4:00 and the finals on Saturday at 2:00.
