W&L WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM RANKED NO. 1 IN THE NATION

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's tennis team sits atop the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Associaton (ITA) Division III Rankings which were recently released. The Generals, who finished the regular season with a school-record tying 24 wins (24-0), moved to the top spot after being ranked second entering the spring season.

The Generals are also ranked first in the Atlantic South region while having four individuals among the Top-15 players in the region. Junior Emily Applegate (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) is the top-ranked player, freshman Katie Tabb (Minneapolis, Minn./Edina) is No. 7, junior Ginny Wortham (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) is No. 8 and junior Kristen McClung (Charleston, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) is No. 14. Applegate and McClung are the second-ranked doubles team, Tabb and Wortham are No. 6 and senior Lisa Mabry (Memphis, Tenn./St. Mary's Episcopal) and sophomore Leah Weston (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) are tied for 15th.

W&L returns to the court at the ODAC Championships at Guilford College, beginning Friday. The Generals will be gunning for their fourth consecutive ODAC Championship and 16th overall.
