SEVEN W&L MEN SWIMMERS HEADED TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's swimming team had seven swimmers qualify for the NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn. from Thu., Mar. 16-Sat., Mar. 18.

The qualifiers are senior Reed Evans (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day), junior Mike Ginder (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal), sophomores Tim McGlaston (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) and Alex Sweet (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day), and freshmen Paul Crook (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell), Chris Diebold (Platte City, Mo./Lansdale Catholic) and Brett Tatman (Marietta, Ga./George Walton).

Ginder swam an NCAA "A" cut time of 1:39.58 in the 200-yard freestyle relay at the Terrapin Invitational (2/24). It was also the fastest time in Division III this season. Ginder also notched an NCAA "A" cut, meet-and school-record time of 1:50.61 in the 200-yard backstroke at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championship (2/18) and an NCAA "B" cut time of 21.26 in the 50-yard freestyle at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational (12/3).

Crook swam NCAA "B" cut times of 1:42.65 in the 200-yard freestyle and 4:39.06 in the 500-yard freestyle at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships (2/18).

McGlaston recorded an NCAA "B" cut time of 21.03 in the 50-yard freestyle at the Terrapin Invitational (2/24), while Sweet notched an NCAA "B" cut time of 46.69 in the 100-yard freestyle at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships (2/18). Tatman swam an NCAA "B" cut time of 1:54.36 in the 200-yard backstroke at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships (2/18).

The foursome of McGlaston, Evans, Sweet and Ginder swam an NCAA "B" cut and school-record time of 1:23.24 in the 200-yard freestyle at the Terrapin Invitational (2/24), while the quartet of Tatman, Crook, Diebold and Ginder recorded a time of 6:56.27 in the 800-yard freestyle relay at the Franklin and Marshall Invitational (12/3/05).

Ginder is seeded first in the 200-yard freestyle, third in the 200-yard backstroke and 33rd in the 50-yard freestyle. Crook is seeded 24th in the 200-yard freestyle and 27th in the 500-yard freestyle, while McGlaston is the 20th seed in the 50-yard freestyle.

Additionally, Sweet is seeded 32nd in the 100-yard freestyle, while Tatman is seeded 23rd in the 200-yard backstroke. The 200-yard freestyle relay is seeded seventh and the 800-yard freestyle relay is seeded 10th.

The Generals will also participate in the 200-yard and 400-yard medley relays and in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Washington and Lee finished the regular season with a 6-1 overall record, a No. 20 national ranking and its third consecutive Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championship.
