LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Mike Walsh has announced the hiring of five new assistant coaches and a new assistant sports information director.
Joining the staff as assistant coaches are Ray Costa (Volleyball), Andrew Delaney (Men's Lacrosse), Linda Jack (Field Hockey/Lacrosse), T.J. Kohler (Football) and Michael Piranian (Men's Soccer). Additionally, Chris Hodgson will serve as assistant sports information director.
Costa joins the volleyball staff after serving as the varsity women's volleyball manager and president, captain and coach of the club men's volleyball team at York College of Pennsylvania. A 2004 graduate of York with a bachelor of science in secondary education, Costa has also been a volunteer assistant coach at Eastern York Middle School and served as a counselor and supervisor of the Summer Camp at Stony Brook University.
Delaney comes to W&L after a year as the assistant lacrosse coach and assistant dean of students at the Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio. A 2003 graduate of Franklin & Marshall with a bachelor of arts degree in special studies, Delaney was a four-year letterwinner for the Diplomats' lacrosse team. Delaney has served as assistant director of the Dave Brothers New Jersey All-Star Lacrosse Camp and has been a camp counselor for the Rising Star 160 and Advantage Lacrosse Camps.
Jack joins the W&L field hockey and women's lacrosse staffs after a one-year stint as the head junior varsity field hockey coach at South River High School in Maryland. She was also an official for the Anne Arundel County Field Hockey Association. A 2003 graduate of Lynchburg College with a bachelor of science degree in environmental science, Jack was a four-year letterwinner for both the LC field hockey and lacrosse teams. She was a three-time All-ODAC and two-time All-America selection in field hockey and a three-time All-ODAC honoree in lacrosse.
Kohler comes to W&L after serving as the offensive coordinator, assistant athletic director and assistant baseball coach at Fairbanks High School in Ohio during the 2003 season. Additionally, Kohler was an assistant football coach, assistant baseball coach and strength and conditioning coordinator at Kenyon College for two seasons and held assistant coaching stints at Marion Elgin and Marion Catholic High Schools in Ohio. Kohler is a 1998 graduate of the Ohio State University with a bachelor of science degree in sociology education and an associate of arts degree in sports management.
Piranian joins the soccer staff after working with the Capital Area Soccer League and Club Med as a field manger and sports director. Piranian, son of Head Men's Soccer Coach Rolf Piranian, graduated from Virginia Tech in 2002 with a bachelor of science in housing, interior design and resource management and a minor in business. A four-year letterwinner for the Hokie Men's Soccer Team, Piranian has also been an assistant soccer coach at Christiansburg High School (2001) and has been an Under-13 coach with the New River Soccer Association.
Hodgson comes to W&L from SUNY-New Paltz, where he was the sports information intern during the 2003-04 school year. He has also been an SID intern at Mt. St. Vincent College (2002-03), was an SID student assistant at Old Dominion University (2001-02), and was the ice hockey/media relations and compliance fellow with the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (2000-01). Hodgson holds a bachelor of science degree in health science with a minor in psychology from Lock Haven University (1999) and a master of science degree in physical education/sport management from Old Dominion (2003).
