TWO W&L SWIMMERS HEADED TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior Chris Colby (Ossining, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) and sophomore Michael Ginder (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) have qualified for the NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships held at the Holland Community Aquatic Center in Holland, Mich., from Thu., Mar. 17-Sat., Mar. 19.
Colby will be competing in the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke events, while Ginder will be swimming the 50-yard, 100-yard, and 200-yard freestyle events.
Colby qualified for the 100-yard butterfly by swimming a school-record and NCAA "B" cut time of 50.45 at the UGA Bulldog Invitational on Feb. 26. He swam his top times in the 200-yard butterfly (1:56.45) and 100-yard backstroke (54.67) at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships.
Colby is seeded 14th in the 100-yard butterfly, 39th in the 200-yard butterfly, and 45th in the 100-yard backstroke.
Ginder, who was named the co-swimmer of the meet at the BMC Championships for the second straight season, qualified for his three events with his performance at the BMC Championships. He captured the 50-yard freestyle in an NCAA “B” cut time of 21.18, won the 100-yard freestyle in an NCAA “B” cut time of 46.03, and claimed the 200-yard freestyle in a school-record and NCAA “A” cut time of 1:40.58.
Ginder is seeded sixth in the 200-yard freestyle, 13th in the 100-yard freestyle, and 30th in the 50-yard freestyle.
W&L finished the season with a 6-2 overall record, a No. 20 national ranking and its second consecutive BMC Championship.
