W&L VOLLEYBALL PICKED FIRST IN ODAC PRESEASON COACHES POLL

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) preseason volleyball coaches poll was released on Friday afternoon. Washington and Lee received seven first place votes to grab the top spot in the voting.

The Generals were followed in the poll by Bridgewater, Roanoke, Lynchburg, Eastern Mennonite, Emory & Henry, Randolph-Macon, Guilford, Hollins, Sweet Briar and Randolph-Macon Woman's College.

In addition, Washington and Lee was ranked 28th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III poll which was released on Thursday.

The Generals return four starters from 2001, a season in which they registered a W&L-record 30 wins and five losses, including a 10-0 mark in ODAC play. W&L won the ODAC Tournament and advanced to the NCAA South Region Semifinals before falling to Emory University, 3-0.

Washington and Lee begins the 2002 season as it hosts the W&L Invitational on Sept. 6-7. The Generals kick off the action by playing Goucher at 4:00 pm.
