FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its Athletes of the Week for the week ending on October 1, and Washington and Lee had two athletes honored.
Junior forward Haley Tucker (Manakin-Sabot, Va. / St. Catherine’s School) was named the Field Hockey Player of the week, and senior midfielder Rebecca Morris (Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth Hall) earned the Women’s Soccer Player of the Week laurel.
Tucker registered her first career hat trick, as the Washington and Lee field hockey team defeated Lynchburg, 4-3, in overtime on Wednesday. Tucker tallied her three goals in the opening 12:17 of the contest to give the Blue and White a 3-0 lead. All three came in a span of 3:49 of game action.
With Tucker's three goals, she now has 22 in her career to sit in seventh on the W&L all-time list. She is also the 12th player in program history to have at least three goals in a single game.
Morris led the women’s soccer team to a 2-0 week. She totaled 11 points on three goals and five assists in the two contests. Morris dished out three assists in a 10-0 victory over Hollins on Wednesday.
In a 7-0 win at Randolph on Saturday, Morris recorded her first career hat trick, while also tallying two assists. Morris’ eight points are the most in a game for a W&L player since the 2005 season.
The field hockey team returns to action on Wednesday, when it travels to Eastern Mennonite for a 5:00 pm contest. The women’s soccer team also plays at EMU on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
