FOREST, Va. — The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its 2016-17 All-Academic Team on Thursday and Washington and Lee once again led the league in number of athletes honored.
The Generals totaled 339 of the conference-record 1,974 All-Academic Team members named from the 17 member institutions. Next on the list was Shenandoah with 220 and Randolph-Macon with 189.
Eligibility for the ODAC All-Academic Team is open to any student-athlete that competes in a conference-sponsored sport, regardless of academic class. He or she must achieve at least a 3.25 grade-point average for the year to be considered for an ODAC All-Academic Award.
Among W&L’s 339 honorees were 65 First Team All-ODAC selections from throughout the 2016-17 year. W&L had nine student-athletes named the player of the year in their respective sport and all nine were also among the All-Academic Team honorees.
The Blue and White compiled a 214-104-3 (.671) overall record during the 2016-17 school year, claiming 10 ODAC Championships (men’s cross country, women’s cross country, women’s lacrosse, women’s soccer, men’s swimming, women’s swimming, men’s tennis and women’s tennis, men’s indoor track & field and men’s outdoor track & field).
Additionally, the Generals claimed the ODAC’s Dan Wooldridge Overall Champions Cup for the 15th straight year.
