FOREST, Va. — The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 17, and Washington and Lee had two athletes honored.
Junior goalkeeper Ariyel Yavalar (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest School) was named the Field Hockey Player of the Week, and junior outside hitter Meg Guignon (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) earned the Volleyball Player of the Week laurel.
Yavalar led the W&L field hockey team to a 2-0 week. She recorded a shutout with three saves in a 1-0 overtime victory over Elizabethtown on Saturday, and then made 11 saves in a 2-1 win over Juniata on Sunday. For the week, she totaled a 0.49 goals against average and a .933 save percentage.
Guignon led the Generals’ volleyball team to a 4-0 week, including three ODAC victories. She totaled 45 kills (3.75 kills per set) to go along with 33 digs, three assists and two total blocks. She registered a .325 hitting percentage on 117 attempts. In a 3-0 victory at E&H, she had 14 kills on 23 attempts without an error for a .609 hitting percentage.
The field hockey team returns to action on Wednesday, when its hosts 17th-ranked Mary Washington at 7:00 pm. The volleyball team plays at Randolph on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
