LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee University’s Department of Athletics and Office of Sustainability will be co-sponsoring a Zero Waste Day in an effort to recycle and minimize waste on campus.
The initiative is similar to the Gameday Recycling Challenge (http://gamedaychallenge.org/) which occurs on campuses across the country. W&L will host this initiative on Saturday, March 25 when the Generals will welcome the Lexington Lacrosse Festival, along with administering its own men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s tennis and baseball games.
Interns from the Sustainability Initiative, volunteers from the Student Environmental Action League, the “24” student-athlete group and other groups on campus will be on hand all day to assist in the efforts to reduce waste from the myriad athletic events on campus.
W&L encourages all fans and visitors to campus on March 25 to seek out volunteers and assist them in their efforts to sort the trash that is collected. Together, we can make a difference in diminishing the amount of trash that will be sent to the landfill that day.
