FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced that Washington and Lee senior Brooke Donnelly (Kennesaw, Ga. / Marietta) has been named the Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, junior midfielder Jess Castelo (Red Bank, N.J. / Lawrenceville) is the Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week and first-year Robert Quinilty (Cypress, Texas / Houston Christian) is the Men’s Golfer of the Week for the week ending March 19.
Donnelly helped lead the women’s tennis team to a 3-1 week, with three wins over ranked opponents. She went 4-0 at No. 1 Singles and 2-2 at No. 1 Doubles while teaming up with sophomore Tessa Hill (Canton, Ohio / Jackson).
In a 9-0 win over 27th-ranked Whitman on Wednesday, Donnelly defeated Andrea Gu, 6-1, 6-0 in singles action. She then teamed up with Hill to defeat Hanna Greenberg and Mary Hill, 8-1, in doubles.
On Thursday, the Generals defeated 20th-ranked Trinity (Texas), 5-4. Donnelly claimed a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Liza Southwick and went on to defeat Marie Lutz and Zoe Kaffen, 8-2, in doubles with Hill.
In a 7-2 loss to second-ranked Williams on Saturday, Donnelly defeated Leah Bush, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in singles. She also claimed a 6-2, 7-5 win over Madie Benn in singles in a 7-2 victory over 22nd-ranked Skidmore on Sunday.
For the year, Donnelly is 18-3 in singles and 13-3 in doubles.
Castelo helped the fourth-ranked women’s lacrosse team to a 2-0 record last week. She registered two goals and two assists in a 14-2 win over St. Mary’s on Wednesday. Castelo then scored four goals on six shots and scooped up three ground balls in an 18-3 victory over fifth-ranked Catholic on Saturday.
Castelo ranks third on the team in goals (8) and is tied for third in points (12). She also has dished out four assists, which is tied for second on the team.
Quinilty helped lead the W&L men’s golf team to a seventh-place finish out of 29 teams at the Jekyll Island Invitational over the weekend. As a team, the Generals carded a three-day score of 288-298-301—887 (+23) to finish ahead of 16 teams that were ranked in the Top 50 of Division III.
Individually, Quinilty posted a -1 score of 72-73-70—215 to tie for fifth out of the 150 golfers in the event. In the process, he topped 13 of the Top 25 golfers in Division III and finished just three strokes behind the individual leader.
For the year, Quinilty has played 11 rounds and he carries a 74.36 scoring average.
The 16th-ranked women’s tennis team (11-2) hosts 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon on Saturday at 1:00 pm. The women’s lacrosse team will open up ODAC play on Wednesday at Roanoke at 7:00 pm and the 22nd-ranked men’s golf team returns to action March 27-28 when a group of players will compete as individuals at the Lynchburg College Invitational held at the Poplar Grove Golf Club.
