Chip Whipple is in his fourth year as assistant sports information director at Washington and Lee, serving as the main media contact for several of W&L's athletic teams, and is responsible for recording statistics, producing news releases, creating a variety of printed materials and maintenance of the University’s athletics webpages, while assisting with the promotion of the athletic department.
Whipple came to W&L from Dartmouth College, where he served as the athletics communications intern from 2010-12. In this role, he was responsible for working with a variety of the school’s 34 varsity athletic teams, including serving as the primary contact for 18 sports.
He also served as a graduate assistant sports information director at Ashland University from 2008-10, working with the school’s 20 varsity athletic teams and earning a master of education in sport education.
A 2004 graduate of Ashland with a bachelor of arts in sport communication and journalism, Whipple spent four years as a student assistant with the sports information department and he completed internships with the Lake County News Herald in Willoughby, Ohio and WJET-TV in Erie, Pa.
He lives with his wife, Lydia, and dog, Max, in Lexington, Va.
