Instructor Bios

Janice Adelman- Ballet Fitness

Janice has spent nearly 25 years studying dance and movement, including Ballet, Jazz, West Coast Swing, Alexander Technique, and Pilates. Since 2012, she trained with former prima ballerina, Maria Teresa del Real, at Barrebox in Miami. Janice currently teaches ballet fitness, ballet boxing, Pilates, ballet, social dance, and psychology.

 

Christine Clancy- TRX

Christine is an Assistant Professor of Physical Education and the Head Women's Basketball Coach at W&L. She was a two sport (basketball and tennis) Division III athlete at Brandeis University. Christine has been teaching PE classes for 6 years (classes include golf, tennis, badminton, basketball, team sports, and weight training) and coaching for 9 years. She holds a Masters of Science in Exercise and Sports Studies from Smith College. After attending and participating in the TRX group fitness classes, she is excited to be certified and teaching this year!

 

Patti Colliton- Lunch Time Fitness

Employee Fitness, a little bit of everything! • NSCA certified in strength and conditioning; Former Certified Athletic Trainer • 17 years of group ex teaching: step, kickboxing, strength training, spin • Day job: Asst Director: Fitness Center • Night job: A.T.E (adolescent transportation engineer)

 

Kiersten Donahue- Cycle+ 

is a Personal Trainer with the YMCA, CPR/First Aid/AED, Fit-Tour Indoor Cycling Certified. She enjoys weight lifting, outdoors and people!

 

Mary Elizabeth Koepele - Yoga

Yoga helped Maryelizabeth achieve her lifelong goal of touching her toes without bending her knees. She is excited to help you work towards your own strength and flexibility goals with yoga!

 

Amber Laughy - Core + Stretch

A 2004 graduate of Randolph-Macon College, Amber discovered her love of exercise through the mandated PE classes. After taking various types of classes over the years, she became certified in Group Exercise, Indoor Cycling, and Silver Sneakers.

 

Kristen McCabe- Pilates and Barre/Pilates

 
I am a 1995 graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a B.S. in Athletic Training. I studied dance for 18 years and have been faithfully practicing yoga and pilates since 2002. I returned to UNLV in May of 2011 to earn my Mat Work I and II Pilates certification. I continued my Pilates education in April 2012 with workshops in "Pilates for Golf" and "Pilates for Stress Management". Besides my love for dance, yoga and teaching pilates, I love to cook. I live in Lexington with my husband, Gene and our 4 daughters Kaelan, Molly, Ava, and Georgia. Hope to see you in my class!

 

Molly McGregor- Yoga and Group Cycling

Jessica Miller- Dance Barre and Sport Circuit

Jessica is the costumer for Washington and Lee University’s Department of Theater, Dance and Film Studies.  She has also been studying dance since the age of five, taking classes in ballet, modern dance, jazz, African and ballroom. She was a member of both the Rockbridge Ballet and the W and L Dance Ensemble.  In 2007 she began teaching for Washington and Lee University’s P.E. Department and Halestone Dance Studio’s Dance Conditioning class. She began teaching for the Group Fitness program in 2015. Jessica lives in Lexington with her husband.

Jackie Moruzzi - Group Cycling

Jackie learned how to ride a bike at age five and hasn't stopped since! Currently, Jackie is a certified Spinning instructor and invites you to come to her class! She is an outgoing, avid cyclist who loves doing long distance rides and meeting new people. 

Sierra Noland- Yoga

I am honored to be able to share my knowledge of Yoga from India, where I completed my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training under the guidance of highly qualified and passionate professionals. My classes will blend authentic Indian Yogic style with some innovative quirks borrowed from various styles of Yoga and beyond. People of all ability levels are welcome to my classes, as I will always provide options for those with injuries or disabilities. I'm dedicated to encouraging each student to improve their practice with personal attention and helpful adjustments/corrections. I hope to bring all of my students a unique and rewarding experience.

Rolf Piranian- TRX

Rolf, an Associate Professor in PE, is a 1974 graduate of W&L. He was a three sport athlete at W&L (Soccer , Wrestling , and Lacrosse). He is an avid user of TRX and is carries a second level certification in the TRX education program.

Mary Helen Powell- WERQ

Mary Helen is a sophomore from Greenwood, SC. A confessed WERQaholic, she cannot wait to lead this high-intensity dance workout this year. Do not be afraid to get your heart-rate up, for her CPR certification has you covered. Favorite quote? "Just dance."

 

Heather Roberts- Sport Circuit Boot Camp

Heather Roberts recently moved here from Oregon where she taught group exercise classes at LA Fitness and Bally's and even a high school aerobics class.  She has taught a variety of classes including kick box, pilates, water exercise, weights and boot camp.  She loves the high energy and teamwork that group exercise brings.  In addition to teaching, she is the women's basketball coach at Southern Virginia University.  Start your day off with a cardio/strength packed workout with Sport Circuit in the mornings. 

 

Stephanie Sandberg- Yoga

Dr. Stephanie Sandberg teaches theatre and film for Washington & Lee University.  As a ten year yoga practitioner, she focuses on how yoga can be used to heal the body, reduce stress, and provide relief from the daily rush of life.  As a Certified Yoga Alliance Instructor, she works with students in group classes as well as one-on-one to achieve a mindful state and a beautiful balance between the body and the mind.  

Jeff Shay- Group Cycling

 
Jeff has been teaching group cycling since first getting hooked in 1996. He's an avid sailor, golfer, skier, and mountain biker and loves the outdoors. After graduating from college he raced on the US Alpine Pro Ski Tour. He also loves his day job as the Johnson Professor of Entrepreneurship and Leadership at the Williams School. Come join him for an early (and I mean early) morning workout and start your day off with a bounce in your step!

Holly Snyder- PiYo and WOW

As an NSCA Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist for the last 14 years, Holly Snyder offers well-rounded fitness training for all participants. Fitness for all ages is her passion; she is an elementary school Physical Education teacher and runs a movement camp for kids in the summer time (Camp PLAY). In addition, Holly has had extensive training in Nutrition Education and Core Stability. Her interest in fitness, nutrition, and healthy living and thinking began in her Kinesiology studies at Indiana University and while getting her Master's from the University of Virginia. She is the proud mama of two kids, Devin and Geneva, and is married to the W&L Volleyball Coach, Bryan Snyder. She loves the camaraderie that naturally occurs within the group fitness atmosphere, and she can't wait to see you in class!!
